Unwritten by Natasha Bedinfield

I am unwritten,
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning
The pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your innovation

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten,

I break tradition
Sometimes my tries
Are outside the lines,
We've been conditioned
To not make mistakes
But I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
drench yourself in words unspoken
live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
the rest still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance

Lose Weight Fast

Exercise 30 mins every day and you'll lose weight. Yea, I think everyone knows that. Lol. No, hang on. I've got something to share.

This diet really works for me. I lost 2kg in a week.

However there are some house rules girlies.

#1- Follow this diet strictly for 3 days in a row
#2- Follow your usual diet for the remaining four days of the week

The 3 Day Diet

First Day of "3 Day Diet"

Breakfast

Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
1 banana
1 slice toast with 1 Tbsp. Peanut Butter

Lunch

1/2 Cup of Tuna
1 slice toast ---> basically a tuna sandwich
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Dinner

2 beef franks or chicken
1/2 cup carrots
1 banana
1 cup broccoli or cabbage
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

I just love coffee. That's why I love this diet so much!

Second Day of "3DayDiet"

Breakfast

Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
1 egg (any style)
1/2 Grapefruit or juice
1 slice of toast

Lunch

1 hard boiled egg
1 slice toast
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Dinner

3 oz. any lean meat
1 cup green beans
1 cup carrots
1 cup vanilla ice cream
1 medium apple
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Third Day of "3 Day Diet"

Breakfast

Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
5 regular saltine crackers
1 oz. (slice) cheddar cheese
1 apple

Lunch

1 cup cottage cheese or tuna
5 saltine crackers
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Dinner

1 cup tuna
1 cup carrots
1 cup cauliflower
1 cup melon
1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Fresh tuna is better, but I bought this one. Works for me!

Expected Benefits derive from 3daysdiet plan:
1. Increased energy
2. Weight loss
3. Healthy skin
4. Enhanced sexual drive
5. Reduced allergies

These expected benefits are from reviews of this 3 Day diet not from personal experience mind you. What's important, I managed to lose 2kg in a week.

Substitutions

I use the following substitutions for the 3 day diet:

* Orange instead of Grapefruit
* Tuna instead of Cottage cheese (and vice versa)
* Frozen yogurt instead of Ice Cream
* Cauliflower instead of Broccoli (and vice versa)
* Green beans instead of Broccoli or Cauliflower
* Papaya instead of Carrots
* Toast instead of 5 crackers (vice versa)

Remember the rules. It's not healthy to eat like this EVERY day.

That's all. Good luck!

My after photo. No, I'm not going to upload my before photo thank you very much. I looked like a hot air balloon :/

Dining and Whining (Gossiping actually!)

Girlies, check this place out! This is the Little White Cafe. It's a really nice and cozy place to eat, talk and laugh. Okay that would be me after a looong tiring day. Okay, maybe not so looooong. just a long day.

It's located in Bandar Baru Bangi, but I swear, the moment I entered the doors the ambiance made me feel like I was back in the UK. This place will definitely be my getaway to get away from (well, work?) Yes. Definitely.

Anyway, lets take a peep inside.

No, it's not this dark. It's my oh-so-awesome camera.

Ahh that's better innit? I mean the lighting. Girlies, it didn't take long for our food to come. And guess what, you get to see the chefs in action! baking and making.

I had tomato mushroom toast (RM5)and my youngest sister, Khodijah, had potato salad (RM6). They both tasted scrumptious!

This berry juice is tastes really good. is tastes? oh my god. Just thinking about the juice makes my grammar go all wrong. I'm stuttering. I'm stuttering. And if you're on a diet, berry juice works wonders. This costs RM8.90. Worth every penny I tell ya. Sweet berries with a tad of sour taste to it. Yumm!

And look, her juice matches her watch!

Oh wait. My coffee was even better. Just look at my face. And this coming from a coffee lover. They made my latte just the way I like it!

Here's what Fatimah had. Spaghetti Carbonara. It makes you look Italian Timsy. I think this costs RM24.90. We got one free on the house ya'll. I think it's because we made too much noise gossiping. They wanted to, (you know, hush us.)

I'm sorry that straw is in your mouth like that sissy. No other picture of you with your food.

My other sister Aishah had vegetable lasagna. Personally, I didn't really like it but she thought it was good. This costs RM15 I think. I don't know the actual price, I don't have the menu with me.

Overall, love the place. Love the food. Definitely a place to chat loooong with friends and loved ones.

Dream of Entering a Mosque

I dreamt of entering a mosque last night with the one I love. We were both in blue.

#Interpretation 1
Entering the mosque with people who dig a hole for the dreamer: The latter will get married.

There was no hole digging but there were many people about to perform their prayers.

#Interpretation 2

A mosque in a dream also represents one who is to be obeyed, respected and revered such as a father, a teacher, a sheikh or a man of knowledge. It also asserts justice if one who enters a mosque in his dream is unjustly treated.

He is the man I look up to. And he was protecting me in someway. Not from anything dangerous, but he was protecting me and looking after me.

#Interpretation 3
Dream of entering the mosque. That is, you will get a dutiful child.

InsyaAllah. Ameen. That's lovely.

It was a huge mosque that I dreamt of. I saw the dome of the mosque. And the green grass. It was beautiful. Only God knows what it means. Alhamdulilah.

"Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you"

I taught my students to be assertive today. To stand up and be honest and direct in expressing their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad is very assertive and I look up to him for that.

Here's an article I'd like to share.

In 2006,Lee Kuan Yew told a forum in Singapore that it was vital for Singapore, a predominantly ethnic Chinese state, to stand up to its bigger, mainly Muslim neighbours, Indonesia and Malaysia.

He made the following statement:

"Our neighbours both have problems with their Chinese. They are successful. They are hard-working and therefore they are systemically marginalised,"

Don't you think it is uncalled for? Whether the statement holds any truth is one matter, in the first place, what rights do you have to talk or criticise on other countries' matters? Heard of "jaga tepi kain orang?"

I liken this to Neighbour A telling others how her Neighbour B is mistreating one of her 3 kids, not giving that kid enough food to eat, pocket money to spend, freedom to play whereas the other 2 kids were allowed all the incentives. Each family has its own rules and how do you feel, if your neighbours were to do the same, go around making comments on how you should run your family ?

Mahathir hits back with the following reply:

"You are not that clever. In a small group, perhaps you seem clever," Mahathir said, referring to Lee.

"But when (Lee) goes to China, the Chinese there don't want to listen to him. The Chinese in China don't think much of him and it is a fact that he is marginalized by Chinese in the world," Mahathir was quoted as saying by the national news agency, Bernama.

"We should have an independent investigation on why the Malays are left behind in Singapore," Mahathir said. "They are pressured, marginalized and oppressed. That is the kind of government founded on the views of Lee Kuan Yew."

You may want to debate if the statement holds any truth or not but that is not the essence of the argument. My personal motto: "Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you".

You may say this is freedom of speech. Why can't people make comments freely you may say. Well fine, then be willing to accept criticsm from others as well.

There's a fine line between freedom of speech and being assertive.

Speak your mind but have substance.

How to Whiten Teeth the Natural Way!

There are many natural teeth whitening home remedies out there. Many of them can help you acheive a whiter smile. However, many of these natural remedies are also abrasive or acidic, and without proper usage, will damage your teeth and cause cavities.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is well known for its ability as a cleaning agent to get rid of stains in the home, but it can also work equally great on your teeth as well.

Stains on your teeth occur in the filmy layer that develops from the food and beverages that you intake. The best way to get rid of this layer and remove surface stains is to brush them away. Baking soda is a gentle abrasive that can work away the filmy layer and eliminate stains.

If you want to use baking soda to remove stains, use the following method:

- Get your toothbrush wet.
- Dip it into a small amount of baking soda.
- Use a circular motion to scrub the front surfaces of your teeth for at least two minutes.
- Rinse with clean water.

Some people also like to blend baking soda with a few drops of white vinegar and brush with the foaming mixture, followed by whitening toothpaste. Baking soda is safe to swallow, but it is important not to use it every day or as a long term solution to whitening teeth since it is quite abrasive and can damage the enamel.

Lemon Juice

Brushing the teeth with lemon juice mix with a quarter teaspoon of aloe vera gel or one teaspoon of salt is another frequently mentioned home remedy. The lemon's natural bleaching properties can help make the teeth brighter.

Unfortunately, lemon juice itself is also very acidic and will cause the teeth to lose calcium. If too much calcium is lost, the teeth can become very susceptible to decay. In addition, brushing the teeth with lemon juice can also soften the tooth enamel and this may lead to tooth sensitivity. Therefore, lemon juice as a natural teeth whitener is not recommended.

Strawberries

You might have heard that strawberries can give you whiter teeth too. This is perfectly true as strawberries contain an enzyme that acts as a natural teeth whitening agent although the effect is fairly mild.

Apply mashed strawberries to your teeth, or just rub with the whole fruit for the tastiest natural home remedy for whitening teeth.

Again, strawberries contain sugar and malic acid, which removes stains and whiten the teeth but also softens the enamel, so you will need to brush your teeth immediately after this treatment to remove any natural sugars and acids they may leave behind.

Wood Ash

Hard wood ash is a natural teeth whitening agent for teeth. It contains potassium hydroxide (lye) which has tiny crystals that help scrape off stains to give you whiter teeth. However you should be aware that hard wood ash is also one of the most abrasive natural teeth whitening remedies available and can damage the teeth with frequent use, so be sure to use it sparingly.

Mustard Oil

Rubbing a few drops of mustard oil and a pinch of salt on the teeth can help remove stains however be aware that this formula may produce a stinging sensation to the gums.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Another common home remedy for whiter teeth, albeit one that is not really natural, is hydrogen peroxide. The basic whitening agent for many clinical and over the counter tooth whitening products, hydrogen peroxide works very well to whiten your teeth, either on its own or mixed with some baking soda. However due to it's awful taste, most people who use hydrogen peroxide at home often dilute it with water before applying it directly onto their toothbrush.

While hydrogen peroxide is safe to gargle, one should be extra careful not to swallow any of it as it poses a health hazard to the body. For pregnant or lactating women, any accidental swallowing of the whitening gel could be potentially harmful to the unborn fetus.

When using hydrogen peroxide, you may also experience gum irritation. This is perfectly normal and natural however you should avoid using it if you have any sores inside your mouth.

Make Up Tips by Tyra Banks

I find this 5 minute make up tips very useful. Don't forget! Your base foundation, eyeliner and mascara should be expensive so that they don't go all runny on your face after 3 hours of application. Bobbi Brown and MAC will do the trick.

You can save on lipstick, blusher, loose powder, and eye shadow. These can all be from pharmacy brands like Maybelline and Revlon. Most of us reapply our lipstick anyway. If you want your eye shadow to last longer, use make up primer before you apply your make up - especially if you are going to attend a dinner or a wedding!

Good luck looking good girls!

Back to Blogging!

I haven't been blogging for a year! But I have been writing. And I have been publishing on facebook for this past year.It took me a whole day to transfer all my entries (for God know's why I would want to do that?) Now that I've finally found time to blog again, I'm really happy!

False Alarm

I thought I was pregnant. Again. But it turns out I’m not. Of course. My period just came. Every time I tell my husband, “I think I’m pregnant.” He will say, “Not again!” Not because he doesn’t want us to have a baby but because he doesn’t want me to put my hopes up high only to cry when the home pregnancy test kit says, “Sorry, No, You’re NOT pregnant, better luck next time.” This time my period came too early. I had light spotting. I for ever and a day google up “early signs of pregnancy”. And spotting before your period comes is one of the many SIGNS. Not to mention how heavy and oversized my bust has been this past week. I felt like I was carrying bowling balls. These are all SIGNS of pregnancy. It’s a false alarm. I’m disappointed.

The things kids say

This week has been a hellava week. I don't even know where to begin. My brother collapsed at school and was warded in IJN for 4 days. I sat for my finals without much preparation. My mother-in-law is now warded in Putrajaya Hospital. A million and one other things to think about at work. I will even have to come to work on labour day. I don't want to fall into self-pity and I won't. I'm sure despite all this, something good is in store for me soon.

Today I spent time with my nieces Saffi and Iman. Babysitting them. It's amazing how kids can turn your world around with the way they say things that tickle you. It just enlightens your day.

Some of the things they said that made me laugh today.

Iman: Maksu, maksu dah kawin ke?

Me: Dah la Iman

Iman: Oooh. Maksu, paksu kawin dengan sape?

Me: Dengan maksu la

Saffi: Yela Iman, tak ingat ke paksu dgn maksu kawin kat depan rumah nenek ni je.

Saffi: Maksu kenapa tak ada baby?

Me: sbb Allah tak letak lagi baby dalam perut maksu

Saffi: Taklah. Maksu kurus sangat ni.

HAHAHA kurus? bestnye!

At the hospital I overheard a little girl talking to her ill mother.

Mother: Lia makan apa tadi?

Girl: Makan tak sedap ayah masak.

HAHAHA

Running in Your Dreams?

Running in your dreams may indicate a need to get away from something in your life. It is important to notice how and where to you are running to figure out the meaning.

Running in dreams, that's common. You find yourself, you've been running, you're going to look at how you're running? Are you running up a hill? This means you've got obstacles to sort of, try and climb. Are you running down the hill? This means you're sort of pursuing your goals, really going well.

Are you being chased? Well, if you're being chased, then look at what you're trying to run away from because being chased in a dream means that you're probably running away from some aspect of your life that you've got to sort out. Look at the scenery around you because if you're running through sunshine and the clouds are clear and you seem to be enjoying yourself, then that really does show a time of optimism and energy. If it's pelting with rain and you soaked to the skin, then it means that you're trying to sort of look at your emotional situation and things are not quite as clear as that.

Are you, perhaps, running away from a relationship situation or are you wanting to run away? Running in dreams is quite fascinating. Try and see where you're going, uphill, whether it's downhill. Whether you're going across the country and things seem to be easy or whether you find yourself running up and down through offices you work at.

If you're running up and down the steps, it may indicate that you're about to sort of want to switch jobs or switch types of jobs. See where you're running. If you're running through a city, it's definitely time to look at where next to go in your career.

If you're running to catch a bus or train or tube, well, maybe you haven't sorted things out. Running is an indication of where you're trying to run to, run from. Metaphorically, it means you're trying to get to or get away from. .

Dreams:
How To Understand Running Dreams

I am 15 going on 16~

A mother passing by her son’s bedroom was

astonished to see the bed was nicely made,

and everything was picked up. Then, she saw

an envelope, propped up prominently on the

pillow.

It was addressed, ‘Mum’ With the worst premonition,

she opened the envelope and read

the letter, with trembling hands

‘Dear, Mum.

I’m writing you with great regret and sorrow.

I had to elope with my new girlfriend,

because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad

and you.

I’ve been finding real passion with Stacy,

and she is so nice, but I knew you would not

approve of her, because of all her piercings’,

tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and

because she is so much older than I am.

But it’s not only the passion, Mum. She’s

pregnant.

Stacy said that we will be very happy. She

owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack

of firewood for the whole winter.

We share a dream of having many more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that

m@rijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll

be growing it for ourselves, and trading it

with the other people in the commune, for all

the coc@ine and ec$tasy we want..

In the meantime, we’ll pray that science

will find a cure for A.I.D.S, so Stacy can get

better. She sure deserves it!!

Don’t worry Mum, I’m 15, and I know how

to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure

we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know

your many grandchildren.

Love, your son,

Nicholas.

PS. Mum, none of the above is true. I’m over

at Jason’s house.

I just wanted to remind you that there are

worse things in life than the school report

that’s on my desk

Love you! Call when it is safe for me to

come home.

Cinta Kasih Sayang

Sayang itu seluruh nyawa.

tidak disayangi, separuh nyawa pergi,

tidak menyayangi, separuh nyawa mati.

Cinta itu seluruh hidup.

tidak dicintai, separuh hidup gundah,

tidah menyintai, separuh hidup musnah.

Kasih itu selamanya.

tidak dikasihi, tidak mungkin terjadi,

hingga akhir nanti, Allah maha mengasihi.

(p/s: this is my first Malay poem)

Without You

Without you,

There'd be no sun in my sky,

There would be no love in my life,

There'd be no world left for me.

And I,

Baby I don't know what I would do,

I'd be lost if I lost you,

If you ever leave,

Baby you would take away everything real in my life.

Where True Love Goes by Yusuf Islam

the moment you walked inside my door

i knew that i need not look no more

i've seen many other souls before

but heaven must've programmed you

the moment you fell inside my dreams

i realised all i had not seen

i've seen many other souls before

but heaven must've programmed you

oh will you?

i'll go where true love goes

i'll go where true love goes

and if you walk alone and if you lose your way

don't forget the one who gave you this today

follow true love,

oh will you?

i'll go where true love goes

i'lli go where true love goes

and if a storm should come

and if you face a wave

that may be the chance for you to be saved

and if you make it through the

trouble and the pain

that may be the time for you to know his name

the moment you said "i will"

i knew that this love was real

and that my fate was sealed

heaven must've programmed you

the moment i looked into you eyes

i knew that they told no lies

there woud be no goodbyes

heaven must've programmed you

i'll go where true love goes

i'll go where true love goes

Gold Wrap

A mother punished her five year old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and she became more upset when the girl used the gold paper to decorate a box.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the golden gift box to her mother the next morning and said, “This is for you mommy.” The mother was embarrassed by her earlier overreaction, but her anger flared again when she opened the box and found it was empty. She spoke to her 5 year old daughter in a harsh manner, “Don’t you know that when you give someone a present, there’s supposed to be something inside the gift box?”

She had tears in her eyes and said, “But there is something in that box mommy. I blew kisses into it until it was full.”

The mother was crushed. She fell on her knees and put her arms around the little girl and apologized lovingly for her thoughtless anger.

An accident took the life of the girl 3 days later, and it is told that the mother kept that box of gold by her bed for all the years of her life.

Whenever she was discouraged and when she felt the whole world was against her, she would take out kisses from the box to comfort her and remember of her loving daughter. And everything would be all right again.

She was in hold of the most precious possession of all. The gift she received was the gift of unconditional love. Love from GOD, family, and true friends can never compare to gold.

Four Englishes and An Option

It’s one of those days when I feel like I really need to write. Not necessarily share but just to sort out my thoughts that are chaotically disturbing, and running wildly through my mind.

I’ve always had a love for languages, especially the English language. Somehow or rather I’ve always tolerated the many varieties of spoken English, whether it is Manglish, Chinglish, or English, as long as it is intelligible to my ear. Similarly, when I was a teenager, I’d never failed to respect people’s diverse personalities and I made friends easily and happily. I saw the best in everyone, and I tried to extract each person’s best trait to be a part of my personality. However, at one point I realized I didn’t have my own personality. I had trouble finding my true self and my true identity. Different identities were constructed when dealing with different personalities. Of course this is not a bad thing altogether if you were planning on becoming a psychologist or a counselor because you have that large amount of empathy and can put yourself in someone else’s shoes. But mirroring each person you meet is not only a bad idea, but also a barrier to finding your true self. Realizing this, I finally became ME. Over time, I decided on life rules, or pillars I wanted to lean on to, and I made my way to ME. The projection of ME no longer mirrored anyone else. I am ME. And I am unique.

Naturally, when you speak to someone, you will, in all respect, suddenly mirror that person’s speech. Mirroring is common in conversation. Observe yourself purchasing hardware at a hardware store from a Chinese lady. Most of you will suddenly sound EXACTLY like her, “Saya sudah banyak tempat cari , ini kedai saja yang ada la nya (nyonya).” The Chinese language is a tone language, and when this Chinese lady speaks Malay- a syllabic language, she will have that Chinese tone to it. And you will speak Malay with that Chinese tone as well. Have you ever asked yourself why you speak Malay with a Chinese accent when talking to a Chinese? Wouldn’t she have understood if you had spoken proper Malay? What is wrong with employing standard Malay you use to speak to your family and friends? And what benefits do you obtain when you speak exactly like her?

In finding my language identity, I encounter a lot of problems. And today I realized that I haven’t found my language identity. It is not that I am afraid to sound like ME, but I have too many repertoires of English of which I can choose from. I grew up in many English language communities. And therefore, when I speak to a British native speaker I will sound very cockney; when I speak to people with American accent, I will sound very American; when I speak to Malays, my English will sound very Malay; when I speak to expatriates or present a paper, I will use a more polished RP English. And for that reason, I have no trouble in distinguishing the marked differences in American and British accents and obtained ceiling scores for Phonetics and Phonology during my undergrad years. However, my aim today is to consider my options and choose my LANGUAGE IDENTITY.

Option 1- Yorkshine English
As a child, I was exposed to cockney English when I was growing up in Yorkshire. This varie^y of English actually omiks most‘t’ sounds, and changes some‘t’ sounds to ‘k’ sounds. (This variety of English omits most t sounds, and changes some t sounds to ‘k’ sounds). After returning to Malaysia, this was the only variety of English I knew, and my year 6 primary school mates would probably remember how I spoke with this alien accent in class. Mostly, this variety is unintelligible to my listeners. Therefore, I do not consider this an option.

Option 2- American English

Thanks to the mass media, our local television is jam-packed with American sitcoms, dramas and movies. I learnt American English mostly from watching movies and TV, and partly from my high school friends. In form 1 and form 2, I was friends with two girsl who just came back from the United States, and a girl from Sri Aman who sounds more American than an American native speaker. That’s how I picked up the American accent. I rolled all the ‘r’ sounds to make my woRds sound rodic, and changed all the ‘t’ sounds to ‘d’ sounds. (I rolled all the ‘r’ sounds to make my words sound rhotic and, and changed all the ‘t’ sounds to ‘d’ sounds). American accent is considered cool to some people. Sometimes I opt to use it.

Option 3 – Malaysian English
Currently, linguists are acknowledging the varieties of English that has emerged over the years around the world. Malaysian English is one variety of world Englishes. Linguists deemed it not fair to compare English as a second language to English as a native language. Thus, as long as our English is intelligible, we fall into a category of our own – Malaysian English. The most standard Malaysian English is the English of our radio DJs. Although most words are pronounced more British-like, the ‘r’ sounds are mostly rhotic. Malaysian English is 40% Malaysianized, 35% British and 25% American. Of course there are varieties across speakers. And we often include ‘la’ at the end of the sentence. “Come on la.” This is the most relaxed form of English, and is effortless. Good option.

Option 4 – British RP-like English

After undertaking TESL, I came to notice the distinctive features of RP English or posh English or royal English. In the UK, only 3% of the population speaks royal English. And this accent is no longer considered ‘natural’ even in the UK. The best thing about RP English is that it makes a person look more educated, if you know what I mean. Like my friend always says, “When you speak English with a British accent, you instantly add 10 points every time you open your mouth.” Even on ESPN, the natural British accents we hear are cockney accents. Prince Harry speaks with a cockney accent, and he’s royal. Should I sound more royal than him?

Since I’ve listed down all my options, tomorrow I will have one language identity. My motives are simple and good. I would like to be role-model for my students. The option I’m choosing is not with the intention to show off or to intimidate, but to be ME. And to sound like ME.

I'll never break your heart Heart

A broken heart is the single

greatest pain you will ever have to

endure.

In fact, the most hurt you can

ever imagine:

and the one who commits this

emotional crime is not someone you

hate; is not even someone you dislike.

No, because the only person

who is capable of breaking your heart

is the one who holds it precariously

in their hands, the one with whom you

have shared your dreams, your secrets,

your fears –

the one you love more than

anybody else in the world

And therein lies the irony.

Rest in peace

My head sunk into a deep, soft pillow,

My body buried under a silky fluffy duvet,

My heart stopped bleeding for one day,

My mind stopped ticking till Sunday.

The Weakest Body Part

This article is from http://ridzwandotcom.blogspot.com/
It really opened my eyes (and ears)!

I have learnt that the weakest part of your body often gets you into trouble. Unfortunately this weakest part will depend on your gender.

Be it trying to manipulate that significant other to do things your way or simply capture his or her attention, knowing this weak body part is absolutely crucial in relationships. Let me humbly share my opinion if you will.

If you are female trying to win soothe the heart of your man, you have it rather simple. And no, it is not located where you think it is. I don’t know why but whenever I talk about this weakest body part, most women automatically assume it to be at the “nether” regions. Men may be shallow creatures but not everything revolves around their small head.

For men, it is universal. Irregardless of their stature, education or intellect, men all over the world have one thing in common. The weakest parts of his body are his eyes.

Despite thousands of years of evolution, the sight remains the primary sense with which a man foresees his pleasures, simple and primordial as it may seem. A woman may have a heart of gold or carry the most complex intellect in her head. But a woman with curves in the wrong places will seldom earn that second glance regardless of how beautiful her character may be.

Of course this does not mean that looks are the only criteria with which to capture a man’s heart. Once his eyes are open, it is much easier to charm him with your other qualities. But how many rationale educated men do we know who seem to abandon all common sense the moment they come across 32C, a wineglass waist and the most flawless face he has ever seen?

Sadly women have continually denied this. Most will refuse to accept the reality that their significant other indeed does belong to a species of such primordial tendencies. “My man is very educated and loves me for who I am, not for my looks”, they squeal. The moment these women get married, they abandon the need to appeal to the eyes. The moment a wife loses her grip on his weakest body part, she loses her grip on his heart.

So women, do yourselves this favour the next time you get into an argument with the dear husband. Think about what he may like to see, no matter how discreet that may be and you will be amazed at the effect. Don’t waste your time with words on any man.

But what about the weakest body part for the females then?

As much as I hate to admit it, women are a much more sophisticated species than their male counterparts. As such, they are not that vulnerable through their eyes. If you piss off your wife and then think that the problem can be solved by just dressing sexy, you could be in a whole tub of trouble.

But that does not mean that our women folk do not have their own weakest body part. The weakest parts of her body are her ears.

A woman may be suave and educated. She may be discerning in her taste and put a lot of thought to the choices that she makes in life. But the moment a woman’s ears come into contact with soft whispers of the words that she needs to hear, most melt like a hot knife through butter.

A woman’s ears are very vulnerable indeed. This may be due to their inherently good-hearted nature and motherly instincts that naturally sows trust in people till proven otherwise. Unfortunately I have come across too many women whose lives have been destroyed for putting in too much faith in words that their ears succumbed to.

Unlike women, most men have learnt to recognise this weakest part very well. I guess this is the reason why men have evolved to be such good liars.

Life at the end of 2010

Life is getting pretty interesting. So interesting that I don’t know whether I should be happy, sad, scared, or worried. Today I found something interesting in my inbox. Two people asked me the same question:

سلام عليكم هل انت المذيعة قناة دبي تي في؟

سلام عليكم هل أنت المذيعة مريم امين؟

Although I took Arabic for three consecutive semesters during my undergrad years I could only make out that “Hal Anti” means “How are you?”, which is, actually… wrong. It doesn’t mean that.

Google translated, it means:

Peace be upon you Are you a presenter at the Dubai TV channel?

Peace be upon you Are you a presenter Mariam Amin?

I WISH

Ah well. Anyway, I didn’t reply the messages. I’ve had quite a number of unknown/unidentified people writing me messages on facebook. I’m sure many of you have too, but I have to say this would be the most interesting message I’ve come across so far.

Okay truth is, the question that’s been on my head these few days is, am I being stalked? I really hope not. I don’t care if someone is trying to make a fool out of me. Or even trying to play tricks on me to make me look stupid. As long as no one is stalking, I’m okay. I just hope it’s not one person stalking, and this person is taking on many personalities. That would really really really scare me.

Today, also, I found a really big leaf and a small flower placed neatly under my wiper. I did look for a note but I couldn’t find any. Looked around didn’t see anybody. I hope I don’t get another one tomorrow.

Sesungguhnya Engkau maha melindungi. Amiin.

33+33+33+1 = 100 rewards

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "After every prayer, if anyone:

1-GLORIFIES Allah (by saying Subhaan-Allah) Thirty Three times, and

2- PRAISES Allah (by saying Al-hamdu-lillah) Thirty Three times, and

3- DECLARES HIS GREATNESS (by saying Allahu-Akbar) Thirty Three times,

4- and says (once), to complete a hundred,

"No one has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner; to Him belongs all sovereignty, and to Him is due all praise; and He has power over all things", [In Arabic: "Laa Ilaaha Illallaahu, Wah-dahu Laa Shareeka Lahoo, Lahul Mulku, Wa Lahul Hamdu, Wa Huwa 'Alaa Kulli Shay-in Qadeer."],

His sins will be forgiven even if these are as abundant as the foam of the sea.

Adakah Kita Bertemu Orang Yang Salah?

Terkadang kita terfikir :

Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Mengetahui lagi Maha Mengenal."

Itulah dia Allah.

Kerana dihitung perbezaan-bezaan, memang akan semakin menjadikan hati kita jauh.

Namun, it does not matter, sebab Allah sahaja yang membinakan hati kita Insya-Allah.

And He Knows best.

Wallahua'lam.

Precious

This is the precious present, regardless of what yesterday was like, regardless of what tomorrow may bring. When your inner eyes open, you can find immense beauty hidden within the inconsequential details of daily life. When your inner ears open, you can hear the subtle, lovely music of the universe everywhere you go. When the heart of your heart opens, you can take deep pleasure in the company of the people around you -- family, friends, acquaintances, or strangers -- including those whose characters are less than perfect, just as your character is less than perfect. When you are open to the beauty, mystery, and grandeur of ordinary existence, you "get it" that it always has been beautiful, mysterious, and grand and always will be. This is the precious present.

Timothy Ray Miller.

Exclusive Use of the word 'Allah'

Many Malays have come to incorrectly believe that Allah is the ‘God of Muslims’ – A deity somehow different from the God of the other faiths. It should be emphasised that the term “Allah” has no implied meaning at all of an Arabian god, a Moon god or even a Muslim god. Muslims are not claiming any exclusiveness when they say "Allah". However Allah is simply the Arabic Name of the one Almighty God; the same name by which Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians, refer to God. The Allah comes from the term ‘al-ilaah’. Al is the definite article in Arabic, equivalent to ‘the’ in English, while ilaah means ‘a deity or god’. So Allah means The God. This is beautifully articulated in the first pillar of Islam which is to believe that God is One, in Arabic it would be, "La ilaha illallah" meaning "There is no god but God"

Pesanan buat Wanita

Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway? (67:16)

Don't

People, do you understand me now,

If sometimes I feel a little mad

Don't you know no one alive can

always be an angel

When things go wrong I seem a little sad

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

You know sometimes, I'm so carefree

With a joy that's hard to hide

Sometimes seems that all I have is worry

And then you're bound to see my other side

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

If I seem edgy, I want you to know

That I never mean to take it out on you

Life has its problems and I get more

than my share

But that's one thing I never mean to do

I don't mean it

People, don't you know I'm only human

Don't you know I have faults like any one

But sometimes I find myself alone regretting

Some little thing; some foolish thing

that I have done,

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

Don't let me be misunderstood

I'm just someone whose intentions are good

Don't let me be misunderstood

100 minus 1

He woke up dumbfounded that they had missed the bus again. He panicked as she wasn’t there sleeping on his lap. He got up alarmingly and frantically searched the horizon for her. Without thinking he chased the bus in the blinding sun but it was too late. It had moved too far.

His heart shattered into a million broken pieces. She left him without saying goodbye. How could she? Really, how could she have the heart to do this to him? After all he’d done for her? Being dumped in the middle of nowhere was more painful than being struck by lightning. His heart sunk as he sat back down on the bench. He felt his body weaken like he was going to die.

The country bus station seemed deserted in the early morning and silence filled the air. He heard a soft tapping sound but he was too devastated to turn around to see what it was. “Coffee?” she offered, as she sat next to him. She had all the while witnessed his distress and was movingly touched with his conduct. His face lit up as if he was seeing her for the first time. His lips formed into a smile.

She knew she would never leave his side. She whispered, “If you live up to 100, I want to live up to 100 minus 1 day so that I don’t ever have to live a day without you.”

Am I a good person?

Leigh Anne: Am I a good person? It’s not a joke. Not rhetorical.

Sean: You are the best person that I know. Everything you do… You do it for others,

Leigh Anne: And why is that?

Sean: I have not a clue. But um… you obviously get some sort of sick satisfaction out of it.

Is Stress Giving You Wrinkles?

Stress and Skin Wrinkles

Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco enlisted 27 students, who all had healthy skin, in a clinical study that found that stress effects cause a decrease in the skin's ability to function properly, heal wounds and fight disease.

Over eight weeks of time, the researchers measured the stressed student's levels of anger, confusion, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and tension while also taking sample of student’s surface skin on the forearms. The scientists then monitored when they reduced stress levels how quickly the participants' skin recovered its ability to essentially "breathe" properly.

The researchers discovered that skin recovery was directly linked to reduced stress levels. Throughout the duration of high stress anxiety levels in exam week, there was a marked decrease in the ability of the aggravated skin to return to normal function. The scientists claim that they have found the first direct link between stress effects and a decrease in the capability of the skin to resume normal functioning after disruption. This stress health link may place a stressed individual at greater risk of common skin disease, such as psoriasis or dermatitis, besides premature wrinkling of the skin

Stress and Premature Aging

While studies have demonstrated evidence that stress symptoms can compromise the immune system and elevate blood pressure, new findings at the University of California, San Francisco have found that prolonged exposure to psychological stress can accelerate the aging process of people's cells and cause them to die at a faster rate than normal.

In the study, published in the Proceedings of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, scientists were able to exactly identify the protein-DNA complexes, known as telomeres, which act as genetic timekeepers and communicate to the cells how long they will live. More specifically, the researchers were able to determine that chronic stress effects and perceived emotional stress had a significant impact on three biological factors -- the length of telomeres, the activity of telomerase, and levels of oxidative stress -- in immune system cells known as peripheral blood mononucleocytes.

Telomeres cap the ends of chromosomes and promote genetic stability. Each time a cell divides, a portion of telomeric DNA dwindles away, and after many rounds of cell division, so much telomeric DNA has diminished that the aged cell stops dividing. Thus the telomeres play a crucial role in activity of a cell and its life span. Telomerase is an enzyme that replenishes a portion of telomeres with each round of cell division. Oxidative stress, which has been proven to precipitate cellular damage, has been identified as to possessing the ability to accelerate the shortening of telomeres in cell culture.

The most stunning result of the study was that the telomeres of women with the highest perceived psychological stress anxiety had undergone the equivalent of approximately 10 years of additional aging, compared with those who had the lowest degree of being stressed! The authors of the study commented that their study is the first time that stress symptoms have been linked to a cellular indicator of aging in healthy people.

Say NO to stress! SMILE :D

Music and Language Learning

The power of music to affect memory is quite intriguing.

Mozart's music and baroque music, with a 60 beats per minute beat pattern, activate the left and right brain.

The simultaneous left and right brain action maximizes learning and retention of information. The information being studied activates the left brain while the music activates the right brain. Also, activities which engage both sides of the brain at the same time, such as playing an instrument or singing, causes the brain to be more capable of processing information.

According to The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, learning potential can be increased a minimum of five times by using this 60 beats per minute music. For example, the ancient Greeks sang their dramas because they understood how music could help them remember more easily.

A renowned Bulgarian psychologist, Dr. George Lozanov, designed a way to teach foreign languages in a fraction of the normal learning time. Using his system, students could learn up to one half of the vocabulary and phrases for the whole school term (which amounts to almost 1,000 words or phrases) in one day.

Along with this, the average retention rate of his students was 92%. Dr. Lozanov's system involved using certain classical music pieces from the baroque period which have around a 60 beats per minute pattern. He has proven that foreign languages can be learned with 85-100% efficiency in only thirty days by using these baroque pieces. His students had a recall accuracy rate of almost 100% even after not reviewing the material for four years.

I Pray

I prayed to God for a flower,

He gave me a bouquet,

I asked God for a minute,

He gave me a day,

I prayed to God for true love,

He gave me that too,

I asked God for an angel,

and He gave me you.

In case I break a plate..

When I get old, I hope

you can understand

and have patience with me.

In case I break a plate,

or spill soup on the table

because I'm losing my eyesight,

I hope you don't yell at me.

Older people are sensitive,

always having self pity

when you yell.

When my hearing gets worse

and I can't hear what you're saying,

I hope you don't call me "DEAF".

Please repeat what you said

or write it down.

I'm sorry my child.

I hope you have the patience

to help me get up.

Like how i used to help you

when you were little,

learning how to walk.

Please bear with me,

When I keep repeating myself

like a broken record,

I hope you just keep listening to me.

Please don't make fun of me

or get sick of listening to me.

Do you remember you were little

and wanted a balloon?

You repeated yourself over

and over

until you got what you wanted.

I hope you can be patient with me

when I'm always cranky.

It's part of getting old.

You'll understand

when you're older.

And if you have spare time,

I hope we can talk,

even for a few minutes.

I'm always all by myself

all the time,

and have no one to talk to.

\

I know you're busy with work.

Even if you're not interested

in my stories,

please have time for me.

Do you remember

when you were little?

I used to listen to your stories

about your teddy bear.

When the time comes,

and I get ill and bedridden,

I hope you have the patience

to take care of me.

I hope you have the patience

to take care of me

during the last few moments

of my life.

I'm not going to last much longer,

anyway.

When the time of my death comes,

I hope that you hold my hand

and give me strength to face death.

And don't worry,

when I finally met our Creator,

I will whisper in his ear to bless you.

Because you loved your mum

and dad.
